Lucero, Leonora Lupe Loretto
Leonora Lupe Loretto was born into Jemez Pueblo in 1943. Among her siblings were Mary Toya, Alma Maestas Concha, Dorothy Trujillo, Fannie Loretto and Edna Coriz. She married into San Felipe Pueblo and moved there.
Lupe was making figurative pottery for the marketplace beginning in the early 1970s. She mostly made storytellers, clowns and nativities. She used the same colors of clay as her sister, Alma Concha, and her work has often been mistaken for Alma’s. She usually signed her pieces: “Lupe Lucero.”
