Joe, Loretta

Loretta Joe was born into Acoma Pueblo in September 1958. She was the daughter of Fred and Florence Waconda, granddaughter of John and Lupe Concho. She credits her mother and grandmother with teaching her the fundamentals of making traditional pottery. Once married, she usually collaborated with her husband, Lawrence Joe.

Loretta and Lawrence mostly made traditional large ollas, jars and bowls. Among their favorite designs were bears-with-heart-lines, parrots, plants, flowers and cloud patterns.
