Suina, Louise

Louise Suina (1939-1992) was a cousin of Helen Cordero and Seferina Ortiz. She specialized in making Cochiti Pueblo-style nativities and storyteller figurines, usually small and well-formed.

Louise taught her daughter, Mary Evangeline “Vangie” Suina, and her daughter-in-law, Dena Suina, the traditional pottery making techniques she had learned as a young girl. Both have become award-earning artists with their finely crafted storytellers and nativities.
