Villalba, Lourdes

Maria de Lourdes Villalba is the youngest daughter of now-deceased Mata Ortiz potter Andres Villalba. Like her father, she learned how to make pottery from her brother, Sabino Villalba, and only works in traditional Paquimé-Revival styles, usually with effigies.

José Andres Villalba is her brother and he, too, works primarily in Ramos polychrome designs and colors, except he makes more plates and bowls.

In 2020, Lourdes earned a Third Place ribbon for one of her ceramic figures at the annual Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz. In 2019 she’d earned a Second Place prize in the New Properties division of the Concurso.
