Quezada, Lucia

Lucia Quezada is the daughter of Reynaldo Quezada and Monserat Treviso. She grew up in a household that was supported by the making of pottery. Reynaldo was one of Juan Quezada Sr.‘s brothers. Among all the other potters in Mata Ortiz, Reynaldo made a niche for himself with black graphite jars, bowls and flying saucers, decorated all over with tooled geometric designs. The vast majority of Lucia’s pieces are very similar to her father’s: black graphite finish, tooled surfaces, all-over designs, bowls, jars and flying saucers. The biggest difference is Lucia’s pieces are half the size or less.

In 2013 she earned a Third Place ribbon for one of her miniatures at the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Women Potters of Mata Ortiz show.
