Ortiz, Luis

Luis Armando Ortiz Sandoval is a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. Luis is mentioned in the book “The Miracle of Mata Ortiz” as one of the earlier potters in the village. David Ortiz is his brother, Mricela Olivas is his wife. His work is mostly of the Paquimé Revival sort: based on the shapes of ancient pots made in the 1300s and 1400s CE and decorated with equally prehistoric designs. He seems to have a prefence for using red clay to make his pots.
