Quezada, Lupita
Born in Mata Ortiz, Lupita Quezada is the daughter of Reynaldo Quezada. Reynaldo is famous for his large glossy black pieces and at age 15, Lupita started making small seed pot versions of some of his shapes. She made her pottery out of local materials and incised the clay of her pots while the clay was still wet. Once the clay was dry, she burnished it to get her typical fantastic glossy look. Then she married Hector Quintana (another well-known Mata Ortiz potter). Hector taught her other ways to burnish her pots, add multi-colored slips and then incise the dry pieces.
