Toya, Lyda

Lyda Toya was born to Estella Toya of Jemez Pueblo in 1954. Along with her sisters, Dolores Toya and Lucy Toya, she grew up learning how to make pottery by watching and working with her mother. She became an active potter in the marketplace around 1984.

Lyda makes polychrome wedding vases, jars, bowls and nativity sets but is most known for her distinctive storytellers. She taught her daughter, Dorell Toya, how to make pottery, too.
