Mora, Maria

A cousin of the famous Pilo Mora, Maria Mora de Ponce is also a potter from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. She learned how to make pottery, though, from her sister, Tomasa Mora. Tomasa had married into the large and prolific Silveira family and ha d a lot to teach Maria.

Once Maria was comfortable with her process for making pottery, she graduated to decorating the pottery that her husband, Martin Ponce, forms for her.
