Suina, Marie
Marie Charlotte Suina was born to Cochiti Pueblo potter Ada Suina and her husband, Tony Suina, in July 1954. Among her siblings were Maria Suina, Caroline Grace Suina and Patty Suina. All of them grew up in a pottery-making household. All of them learned how to make traditional pottery the traditional way: through watching and working with each other as they were growing up, just like in the old days.
Marie started making pottery for the marketplace in the mid-1970s. She was a regular at the Santa Fe Indian Market for years, earning at least one Second Place award for a storyteller figure in 1988.
Marie made polychrome jars and bowls, plus storytellers, nativities and other figures.
