Tena, Mariela

Mariela Tena is one of the daughters of award-earning potters Gerardo Tena and Norma Hernandez de Tena. Like the rest of her family, she lives and works in the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico.

Mariela’s parents are known for their intricately painted designs based on ancient Paquimé designs. Mariela is becoming known for her contemporary slipped, sgraffito and painted decorations, often with hummingbirds, flowers and bands of geometric designs.

Melissa Tena is her sister.
