Lente, Marquis

Marquis Dann-Lente was a Laguna Pueblo potter who was born at the Keams Canyon Hospital in 1970. His mother was Sandra J. Lente from Laguna Pueblo, his father Floyd Dann, Jr. from Hopi.

Marquis was always a traditional potter using hand-dug native clay, hand-coil construction, mineral and vegetal paints and ground potsherds as temper. His painted designs were often a mix of Acoma and Laguna motifs. He learned to make pottery from Preston Duwyenie of Hopi and from May Chavez of Acoma. He usually signed his pieces as: Lente, Laguna. Sadly, Marquis passed on in 2005.
