Guillen, Martin Cota

Martin Cota Guillen is the younger brother of Gerardo Cota of Mata Ortiz. He has a photo of himself at seven years old watching Juan Quezada working on a pot. But it was Gerardo who actually taught him how to pot in the early 1990s.

Martin seems to prefer making figures: humans, fish and other more fantastical forms. He also prefers to decorate them with Paquimé Revival designs but he runs those designs through a fertile imagination that bends and stretches them into surrealistic motifs and geometries.
