Chalan, Mary
Mary O. Chalan was born into Cochiti Pueblo in August 1939. Her parents were Raymond and Barbarita Herrera but she learned how to make pottery through watching and working with her mother-in-law, Helen Cordero.
Mary made polychrome jars and bowls but was most known for her storytellers, turtles, bears, frogs and other figures. The faces on her storytellers were very distinctive.
