Gutierrez, Mary

Mary Talachy Gutierrez (1941-2018) was a potter from Pojoaque Pueblo. She was originally born into Ohkay Owingeh but after she married Timothy James Gutierrez, she moved to his home at Pojoaque.

Mary’s mother was Crucita Atencio Talachy, her father Amarante Talachy. Among her siblings were Joe Talachy and Stella Tanner.

Mary primarily produced redware and blackware jars, bowls and miniatures. She usually decorated them with sgraffito and painted bird, animal, plant and geometric designs.
