Garcia, Mary Lewis
Mary Lewis (Histia)(Garcia) was born to Lucy Lewis and Toribio Haskaya of Acoma Pueblo in 1933. Like her siblings, Drew Lewis, Anne Lewis Hansen, Carmel Lewis, Dolores Lewis, Emma Lewis and Ivan Lewis, Mary was exposed to every aspect of pottery making the traditional way as she was growing up.
Mary primarily made traditional polychrome and black-on-white Mimbres– and Anasazi– Revival jars, bowls, ollas and canteens. However, she also raised 11 children, which didn’t leave a lot of time to make pottery. She did enter the Santa Fe Indian Market in 1989 and earned a First Place award for one of her canteens.
