Quezada, Mauro
Mauro Corona Quezada is the youngest son of Consolacion Quezada. He learned how to make pottery while he was still in primary school. Now he is considered one of the best potters in the village of Mata Ortiz.
Mauro forms, sands, polishes, paints and fires his own vessels. He specializes in large white pots with detailed designs in rich red and black. His Paquimé Revival designs have even more movement to them than his uncle Juan‘s. On Mauro’s early work he tended to fill spaces between major elements with lots of frets, dots and lines. He’s cut back on that and brought more emphasis to what the “white space” brings to his designs.
