Chino, Monica
Monica Chino was born into Acoma Pueblo in 1970, the daughter of Patrick and Emmalita Chino. She learned how to make pottery in her late teens through watching and working with her mother, who had learned from her mother-in-law, Marie Z. Chino. Emmalita’s mother was Margaret Charlie, also a well-known potter. Among her aunt’s are Loretta Garcia, Rose Chino and Marie Torivio. Brenda Charlie and Karen Chino are her sisters.
Monica finally got serious about making pottery when she was about 20. At that point she began winning awards for her work.
