Quezada, Moroni
Born in the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico in 1993, Moroni Quezada is the son of potters Rito Talavera and Lydia Quezada (Juan Quezada Sr.‘s youngest sister).
Moroni began working with clay when he was just 7. By the time he finished high school, he’d learned the entire process from his parents, including the elegant black-on-black-on-black style that made his mother famous.
Unlike some in Mata Ortiz, Moroni forms and paints his own pots because, in his words, “It’s fun.” He also admits to enjoying the painting part most (as do most potters).
