Little Snow, Myra
Myra Little Snow was born to Joseph Louis Tafoya and Lucy Year Flower in 1962. That makes her heritage 1/2 Santa Clara Pueblo, 1/2 Pojoaque Pueblo. She began making pottery at the age of 12, learning from her mother, grandfather Camilio (Sunflower) Tafoya, aunt Grace Medicine Flower, and cousins Forrest Naranjo and Rosemary, Greg and Susan Lonewolf. With a pedigree like that it’s no wonder she’s earned a few ribbons for her pottery at the Santa Fe Indian Market.
While Myra has been known to make a few different styles of pots (especially miniatures), her favorite shapes are seed pots, usually black and decorated with lightly carved and sgraffito geometric designs.
Myra was a participant in the Seven Families in Pueblo Pottery exhibit at the Maxwell Museum of Anthropology of the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque in 1974.
When we asked Myra where she finds her inspiration there was no hesitation: “From Mom and Grandpa Camilio.” They left quite a legacy.
