Chavarria, Pablita
Pablita Chavarria was a potter from Santa Clara Pueblo who lived from 1914 to 1979. She made carved black ware and black-on-black bowls, vases, jars, wedding vases, plates, two-spouted vessels and miniatures. Among her favorite design elements were hummingbirds, the avanyu, rainclouds and flowers.
Among Pablita’s children were Florence Browning, Reycita Naranjo, Elizabeth Naranjo, Clara Shije and Mary Singer. Stella Chavarria married Pablita’s son Loretto.
Pieces of Pablita’s work were included in the 1979 One Space/Three Visions exhibit at the Albuquerque Museum.
