Honie, Patricia

Patricia Honie was a potter from the village of Sichomovi on Hopi First Mesa. She was born on St. Patricks Day in 1919 and passed on in 2001. She learned to make pottery from her father’s mother. She was the younger sister of Juanita Healing. Juanita was the wife of Dewey Healing, Annie Healing’s son.

Patricia had eight children and didn’t seem to have time to make pottery until they were just about grown. She was actively producing pottery only from 1960 to the late 1980s and even then, she didn’t make much. She mostly made black-and-red-on-yellow bowls and black-on-red bowls, tiles and figures. Her favorite designs seem to have included parrots, feathers and fine line patterns.
