Cruz, Ricardo Delgado

Born in the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico in 1970, Ricardo Delgado Cruz has been producing pottery since 1999. His teacher was Manuel “Manolo” Rodriguez. Sandra Lorena Arras, Ricardo’s wife, often helps him with sanding, polishing and filling in larger painted areas on his pots.

Ricardo’s style has grown to include light carving and sgraffito in addition to his intricate painted designs that often include realistic animals and swirling bands of traditional Paquimé Revival geometric patterns. Ricardo says he enjoys the painting and carving most so he often purchases blank pots made by other potters.

Ricardo first entered the Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz in 2000.
