Villalba, Sabino

Sabino Caby Villalba Hernandez, from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico, was the first-born child of Andres Villalba and Bacilia Hernandez. He learned how to make pottery from his father. He and his wife, Veronica Silveira, usually work together: they buy blank pots that she sands and polishes and he paints and fires.

In 2017 Sabino earned a Second Place prize in the White Polychrome division at the annual Concurso Ceramica de Mata Ortiz. In 2016 he earned a Third Place prize at the Concurso for one of his sculptural pieces.
