Arras, Sandra Lorena

Sandra Lorena Arras Olivas is the wife of Ricardo Delgado Cruz. They are both second-generation Mata Ortiz potters, using traditional methods to produce beautiful contemporary-styled hand-made pottery. They often collaborate on their pieces with Sandra signing the smaller ones and Ricardo the larger ones.

Their styles of lightly carving, sgraffito and painting are very similar, as is the imagery in their designs. It’s next to impossible to tell where one left off and the other continued on.

Sandra’s pottery tends to be a white clay body with various colored slips used for overall colors and for filling in fine lines and images. Her designs are usually based on the nature around her: birds, butterflies, plants, branches and flowers.
