Nash, Sandra

Sandra Dewangumptewa Nash is a Hopi potter from the village of Walpi. She’s a member of the Walpi Tobacco and Rabbit clans. She signs some of her pieces “S Nash Hopi Walpi” with a silhouette of a smoking pipe (a hallmark of Tobacco clan members). She signs other pieces “Sandra Nash First Mesa” or “S. Dewa”. She made what is possibly the only Hopi owl effigy ever made (she made it to satisfy a commission). Usually, she makes black-on-red or black-on-buff jars and bowls, some with bird heads on the rims.
