Tafoya, Severa
Severa Tafoya (1890-1973) was the daughter of Jose Domingo Gutierrez and Tonita Gutierrez of Santa Clara Pueblo. Among her siblings was Van (Evangelo) Gutierrez of the famous Lela and Van pottery making team.
Severa learned how to make pottery as she was growing up. In turn, she taught her daughter, Mary Agnes Tafoya, and her grandson, Paul Speckled Rock, how to make pottery, too. Severa mostly made carved blackware jars, bowls and plates.
