Stevens, Sharon
“Lizards are believed to bring good luck, and turtles bring you long life.”
Sharon Stevens was born into Acoma Pueblo in September 1960, the daughter of James and Rose Rosita Stevens. She grew up learning how to make pottery from her mother and from her grandmother, Lolita Garcia, becoming active in the marketplace as a teenager.
Sharon mostly makes large Mimbres– and Anasazi-Revival and traditional fine line black-on-white, black-on-red and polychrome jars with handles, storage jars, bowls and regular jars. Her favorite designs include lizards, rain, frets and concentric rectangles like those found on a turtle’s shell.
