Garcia-Rustin, Shawna
Shawna Garcia was born into Acoma Pueblo in December 1969, the daughter of Beatrice Garcia and Elliot Garcia Sr. She learned how to make pottery through watching and working with her parents. Then she married Patrick Rustin, a San Carlos Apache man, and he moved to her home at Acomita.
At Acomita, Patrick formed the pottery, Shauna decorated it, then Patrick fired it. Her favorite designs included kiva steps, bird and bird elements, rain, clouds, mountains and the Sun Clan.
In 1998 Shawna earned a Best of Show ribbon for one of her pieces at the New Mexico State Fair. Then in 2000 she earned Best of Show, Best of Pottery and First Place ribbons at the New Mexico State Fair for another of her pieces.
