Chino, Shaylene

Shaylene Chino is the daughter of Oneita Chino and daughter-in-law of Carolyn Concho. Her father was of Santa Clara and Ohkay Owingeh heritage but she grew up in her mother’s home at Acoma Pueblo.

Shaylene was designing and making her own earrings for the marketplace when she got married and came under the wing of her mother-in-law. That’s when she began learning the traditional way to make contemporary pottery at Acoma. She makes mostly small polychrome plates and seed pots. As her designs incorporate a lot of fine lines and geometric shapes, her designs are classed “contemporary.”
