Tena, Sofia de

Sofia Sandoval de Tena is one of the first generation of potters from the village of Mata Ortiz in northern Mexico. Her sister was the wife of Felix Ortiz, another of the first generation of potters from Mata Ortiz. Gerardo Tena, the figure maker, is Sofia’s son and he learned how to make pottery from her. Fito Tena, another of her sons, also learned from her.
