Goodman, Stella

Stella Goodman is a Dineh potter who has specialized in making exposed coil pots (also known as beehive pots). She coils her pieces like every other pueblo potter, then she smooths the inside and may actually accentuate the coils on the outside. She stacks her wood for the fire so that each piece gets fire clouds for decorations. Then when it’s all cool again, she coats everything with a brush of hot pinon pitch. She usually makes jars, bowls and wedding vases.
