Suina, Vangie

Mary Vangie Suina was born into Cochiti Pueblo in April 1959. Her parents were Ernest and Louise Q. Suina. Her paternal grandmother was Anita Suina. Vangie learned how to make pottery from her mother as she was growing up.

Vangie was active in the marketplace in her early 20s, earning awards for her storytellers at the 1983 and 1984 Santa Fe Indian Markets. In 1991 she earned a Best of Show at the Heard Museum Guild Indian Art Fair and Market.

Vangie mostly makes storytellers and nativity scenes but she also makes polychrome jars, bowls and other figures. She is also a painter.
