Baca, Vida and Joseph

Vida and Joseph Baca are a husband-and-wife team of potters from Santa Clara Pueblo. Vida is originally from Zuni Pueblo, born in 1964 to Terry and Janice Wyaco. When she married Joseph, she moved to his home at Santa Clara.

Vida learned how to make pottery through watching their neighbor, Mida Tafoya, make pottery. Mida taught a lot of people how to make pottery. Vida learned well enough to earn several ribbons at the Eight Northern Indian Pueblo Arts and Crafts Show.

Joseph helps Vida by gathering clay, wood, manure, etc. but he indicated to Gregory Schaaf that he is a weaver, too (Pueblo Indian Pottery 750 Artist Biographies, 2000).
