Kowemy, Wendell

Wendell Kowemy is a potter from Laguna Pueblo. His mother was Wendy Cheromiah, daughter of Evelyn Cheromiah. Like all her siblings, Wendy was a student in the four-month courses offered by their mother as part of the Laguna Arts and Crafts Cooperative in 1973. Wendell was born in 1972 and his grandmother started teaching him how to make pottery in 1992.

Wendell makes bowls and jars, and he likes to decorate his pieces with designs found on pot sherds left lying on the ground hundreds of years ago: Tularosa spirals, checkerboards and fine line patterns.
