Pacheco, William Andrew
The son of Gilbert and Paulita Pacheco, William Andrew Pacheco was born into Santo Domingo Pueblo in October 1975. As his parents were serious potters, he grew up exposed to the whole process of making pottery. He was interested early on, earning his first award at the Santa Fe Indian Market in 1986. He was a regular participant in the Market until he finished high school and headed off to New Mexico State University in Las Cruces. Then he attended the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque before going to Cornell University in New York (Cornell runs a top-notch ceramics program). Then he essentially disappeared from the market.
Andrew became famous for the dinosaur designs he painted on traditional Santo Domingo polychrome jars, bowls and canteens. He also made animal figures and collaborated with Gladys Pacheco in making jewelry. Rose Pacheco is his older sister and Robert Tenorio is his uncle.
