Lovato, Elizabeth
Elizabeth Lovato is the daughter of Donicia Tafoya. Her brother was Juan Tafoya, her sister Annette Romero (Annette was associated with Diego Romero in the 1990s, before he met and married Cara Romero).
Donicia was from Santa Clara Pueblo but she married a man from San Ildefonso Pueblo and, contrary to Pueblo tradition, she moved to his home. Elizabeth, Annette and Juan grew up at San Ildefonso and lived there most of their lives.
Donicia was making pottery before she was married and she carried on making pottery after, only she learned how to make black-on-black pottery similar to that of Maria Martinez. Her children learned how to make pottery, too, as they grew up, both San Ildefonso and Santa Clara styles. Today, Elizabeth is most known for her black-on-black pottery.
